The Byronic Society of the Holy City of Messolonghi was founded in 1991 and is housed in a building, similar to the building in which lived the great Romantic poet, Lord Byron. It operates as an international Research and Study Center for the life and work of Lord Byron. It also aims to highlight the work of many other philhellenes who sacrificed, helping the Greek Revolution of 1821, the idea of Philhellenism and the values advocated by their attitude and contribution to the concept of freedom at Greek, European and global levels. It has a rich library with rare collections of books, which is open to the public.
