St Georgios of St Georgios Village

Between the villages of Saint Georgios and Evinohori, at a distance of about 2 km from both, the church of Saint Georgios is located, which is today the cemetery church of the first village. It is one of the most interesting monuments in the area, as it is a typical example of a basilica, which transports us from the early Christian to the mid-Byzantine period and from the mid-Byzantine to the time of the Despotate of Epirus and from there to the years of Ottoman rule. The architectural elements which are retained from the past, are few, but enable experts to reconstruct the successive phases of renovations it has undergone over the centuries. The church was first built as a three-aisled wooden-roofed basilica during the early Christian period.
