EPH.A.AET.L. Building

The so-called "Pink Town Hall" by the locals and in previous generations "Trikoupeiko" concerns the Mansion of Ioannis Trikoupis, lawyer and Member of Parliament, first cousin of Charilaos Trikoupis. In the past it housed the old town hall (hence the name "Pink Town Hall") of the city while today it houses the Ephorate of Antiquities of Aetoloakarnania and Lefkada.

Architecture

It is a two-story mansion of the neoclassical period with influences from Phanariotic mansions and Greek mansions of Bosporus. The roof is from wooden frame that rests on wooden forks and at the end ends in wooden stalactites.

In 1979, it was designated as a work of art, in need of special state protection and as a historic building.

History

In the middle of the last century, the lawyer of Messolonghi and Athens, Spyros Libanos, bought the mansion from I.Th. Trikoupi lawyer and Member of Parliament, first cousin of Charilaos Trikoupis.

In 1992 it came into the Greek State by the owner and Member of Parliament Dionysios Libanos. In 2016 the property was now permanently ceded indefinitely to the Ephorate of Antiquities of Aetolia and Lefkad. Repair and renovation work followed and since February 2019 the Ephorate of Antiquities of Aitoloakarnania and Lefkada is now housed there.
