Wine (or oinos) is an alcoholic beverage, a product of grapes fermentation or their juice (“moustos”). Drinks like wine, are also made from other fruits or flowers or seeds, but the word wine alone always means wine from grapes. Wine is of particular interest for several reasons. It is, on one hand a popular drink that accompanies and enhances a wide range of European and Mediterranean flavors, from the simplest and traditional to the most complex and on the other hand is an important agricultural product that reflects the diversity of the soil and the climate of a place. Wine is also used in religious ceremonies in many cultures while the wine trade is of historical importance for many areas. |
